welcome winter with wellness tips for you and your family

While there’s no off-season for wellness, sometimes the winter months make us feel like taking a break. But it’s important not to let these colder, darker days get in the way of your self-care. Practicing basic health-focused habits throughout the season can help you stay well. Here are just five wellness tips to get you started:

Wash your hands

Germs are lurking everywhere. Be sure you and your family members wash your hands throughout the day to minimize spreading germs and risking of illness. Wash for at least 20 seconds with moisturizing hand soap that won’t dry and strip skin. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when you’re out and about and unable to wash with soap.

Get your vitamin D

Vitamin D plays an essential role in supporting the immune system, maintaining mental health, supporting bone health, and more, and sunlight helps your body make it. With limited daylight hours in the winter months, it’s important to make the most of it by getting outside as much as you can. Just be sure to protect against sun damage by using a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or greater.

Keep moving

Don’t let the cooler temperatures stop you from getting your exercise in. Bundle up and go for a family walk, jog, or bike ride. Weather not cooperating? There are plenty of ways to fit in fitness indoors with workout videos, fitness-based video games, or playing games like hide-and-seek or setting up an indoor obstacle course with the kids.

Be kind to your skin

A combination of cold, dry air outside and blasts of hot air from a central heating unit inside can suck moisture away from your skin. Watch out for chapped lips, cracked hands, and red noses. Use pure haven lip balm, hand cream with pre+probiotics, and refresh moisturizer with pre+probiotics daily or even multiple times a day to safely soften skin and protect from further damage. Best of all, these products are 100% safe for the entire family to use.

Stay in touch

Sure, we’re all social distancing, but it’s important to your mental health to stay social, especially during the cold weather months when many of us get the winter blues. Even when you’re spending more time at home, you can maintain friendships and social relationships by phone and video chat. Set up a regular schedule to “meet up” with family and friends.
